Todd Edwards – Treehouse mix

Todd  “the effin’ God” Edwards? Yes – that one.

When the Treehouse was first raised, the guest DJ curation (outside residents) was always meant to be fluid — informed by friends who are excellent DJs and locals whose skills don’t get anywhere near enough props, as well as the random great musician in NY looking for a different kind of gig. Well, with Todd Edwards, we’re getting all three.

Todd and his garage sound came out of Jersey in the ‘90s, yet another component of New York house music’s golden age. Europeans, and especially Londoners, fell hard for him. His beat became the main basis for the UK garage and the two-step phenomena, his vocal cut-up method prefaced what would soon be called “micro-house,” and Daft Punk even featured him on Discovery (“Face to Face”). (A great overview of Todd’s work can be found at this fan YouTube channel, or the exclusive mix he created for us. To read more about Todd, check out this great, comprehensive interview he gave Stylus in 2007.)

Todd was never fully on the DJ circuit, considering himself more a pure producer, but when he did those gigs, he tore the roof off. Well, now you have the chance to see him dust Raspberry Jones and Treeboy, at Littlefield next Wednesday. Though we promise we’ll hold our own.

One time only: we’re starting this Treehouse at 10pm, so grab some dinner and grab a moment on the dance-floor.

Thanks to Todd, Adam at Scion, Liza, Moose at Chung King Studios and KT for helping out with the details.

I look forward to seeing you on the dance-floor.
